Freelancing is a trending topic nowadays. Everyone wanted to become a freelancer. A lot of people struggling and at the same time a lot of people making decent $$ though.
I’m working as a full-time freelancer since 2017. I have now team 22 members working with me. Working with a lot of clients all over the world. Actually, I’m leading my dream life now.
What is Freelancing?
According to Wikipedia “freelancer, or freelance worker, are terms commonly used for a person who is self-employed and not necessarily committed to a particular employer long-term. Freelance workers are sometimes represented by a company or a temporary agency that resells freelance labor to clients; others work independently or use professional associations or websites to get work.”
Buyer: Hey I’m looking for someone to make a logo for my new website, my budget is $25!
Seller: Hey, I have a decent skills in logo designing, would love to work for you.
[Buyer giving you all the instructions and you did the job as done for them, its called freelancing.]
How To Become a Freelancer?
So, I have some tips for you to become a successful freelancer:
- Learn, learn and learn first
- Choose a single/specific niche/topic
- Try to become a master in it
- Achieve the problem-solving skills in your industry
- Learn how to communicate
- Be honest and help people in your industry
- Read blogs and share knowledge in your industry
- Share knowledge and build your connection with the same industry
- Join marketplaces such as Fiverr, Upwork, People Per Hour, Guru, Freelancer ETC
- Be patient
How To Start Freelancing For Beginners
These are (above) the primary things you have to strictly follow. There’s a lot of competition so, always try to learn something new and represent that in your words. Try to do something unique. Don’t jump one to another skill, it will l burn you.
Stick on a single topic. So, choose the easy one, not the hardest niche that you feel uncomfortable with.
Try to become a master in your industry, so people can trust you. Solve their real problems, if you wanted to become a master and would love to achieve problem-solving skills, you have to be patient, it will take a lot of time. there’s no overnight success.
Try to be very active, so read blogs and share knowledge with the same people in your industry.
Build your connection on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin.
If you have some confidence, then join Fiverr, Upwork, or any marketplace. It’s not necessary to join marketplaces, you can still work with direct clients though.
If you have built some good connections and you’re active with your target audience, a lot of clients will contact you.
But again, it will take a certain time to become a successful freelancer. It’s not easy but possible.
What Skills Should I Learn For Freelancing ?
You shouldn’t ask a question like this. Instead, do some research and try to understand, what’s a skill you feel better with. If you think web development is perfect for you, then go for it. So, don’t choose a topic just because of the demand of the topic, rather you should select a topic that you have some passion, you have confidence, you feel easy for you though.

How To Get Clients
The primary method of getting clients is marketplaces. Upwork Fiverr is the top one. Also, I started my freelancing journey with Fiverr. I still sell on Fiverr and Upwork though.
